RIP Mr Charlot

Dreadful News, we're mourning. Our headmaster, Mr Charlot died today at 12 pm from a heart attack. We are deeply saddened by this terrible news and I can’t think of anything to say apart from the fact that he was a great headmaster whose memory we will always cherish. Of course, we think of his family and offer them our most sincere condolences. We want them to know that he was deeply respected by all the members Arago: teachers, workers and students.

The absent father

Great audio for those who care to listen.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000qx12

The poet Anthony Joseph has been writing a new collection that addresses a key relationship in his life.

His father, Albert was many things - a sharp dresser, an orator, a builder but he was only an intermittent figure in Anthony's childhood. And it is this absence which made him powerfully present in Joseph's imagination.

Anthony reveals some of his writing process and his form of 'calypso sonnet', a politically invested line length that, he says, "enforces a melodic rhythm which reminds me of my father" and favours a decidedly Afro-Caribbean approach.

In this programme, Anthony explores ideas around fatherhood, masculinity, absence and loss, as he talks to other artists whose art has become a space for interrogating the memory of their father.

We hear from fellow poet Raymond Antrobus, the singer Gregory Porter and the Trinidadian film-maker Mariel Brown.

Payzee Mahmod | TEDxLondonWomen - A true story.

Over my thirty four years of teaching, pupils and students have often told me that they like true stories.

Here is a gut-wrenching one. This TEDxLondonWomen talk lasts 18mn.

It's worth the while. Those of my pupils who will tell me at what time she says in this 18'45'' vid :

" Childhood, up to 18 should be a time to learn, to grow and to pursue your dreams.",

So those pupils who will tell me when she says that in the video ;-) will get a good grade...

They can even ask, in the comment section of this post, some indication... I do want you all to succeed in learning English as your second language, or third or fourth. The larger the number of languages we speak, the better.

KINDNESS

In the comments below, say which quote you prefer.
At least, this "No comments" will disappear in this post...
Keeping my fingers crossed! And feeling sorry for the kids who are absolutely
unable to work autonomously. To give you an idea, 6 kids in my "secondes" have sent me some homework, 9 in the "première", 5 in Terminale, 1 in BTS1 and none, zero, nought in BTS2.

And M. J.M.Blanquer declared lockdown a mark-free zone. Couldn't believe it as I said to one of you. Anyway,
Choose your favourite quote and explain why in the comments. Thank you!!!!

"Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness.
Every act creates a ripple with no logical end."— Scott Adams

"Kindness is my number one attribute in a human being.
I'll put it before any of the things like courage or bravery or generosity or anything else."— Roald Dahl

"Kindness is love in action."  — Henry Drummond

"A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions,

— Amelia Earhart

"What do we live for, if it is not to make life less difficult to each other?" — George Eliot

"Kindness is the shadow of God in man." — Kahlil Gibran

"When I was young, I admired clever people. Now that I am old, I admire kind people."— Abraham Joshua Heschel

"It is a little embarrassing that, after forty-five years of research and study, the best advice I can give to people is to be a little kinder to each other."

         — Aldous Huxley

"Surely there is no road or effort so steep but a loving deed may soften its harshness."— Helen Keller

"If you stop to be kind, you must swerve often from your path."                           — Mary Webb

 ......................................................

I'd say my favourite quote is Amelia Earheart. I like the rhizomatic vibe to it. The exponential power of kindness.

EMPLOYEE NOTICE

Due to the current financial situation caused by the Corona Virus and slowdown in the economy, the Government has decided to implement a scheme to put workers of 50 years of age and above on early, mandatory retirement, thus creating jobs and reducing unemployment.

This scheme will be known as RAPE (Retire Aged People Early).

Persons selected to be RAPED can apply to the Government to be considered for the SHAFT program (Special Help After Forced Termination).

Persons who have been RAPED and SHAFTED will be reviewed under the SCREW program (System Covering Retired-Early Workers).

A person may be RAPED once, SHAFTED twice and SCREWED as many times as the Government deems appropriate.

Persons who have been RAPED could get AIDS (Additional Income for Dependents & Spouse) or HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel Early Severance).

Obviously persons who have AIDS or HERPES will not be SHAFTED or SCREWED any further by the Government.

Persons who are not RAPED and are staying on will receive as much SHIT (Special High Intensity Training) as possible. The Government has always prided themselves on the amount of SHIT they give our citizens.

Should you feel that you do not receive enough SHIT, please bring this to the attention of your TD, who has been trained to give you all the SHIT you can handle.

Sincerely,

The Committee for Economic Value of Individual Lives (E.V.I.L.)

PS - Due to Corona Virus, recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas and oil, as well as current market conditions, The Light at the End of the Tunnel has been turned off.
