Internet is a wondrous tool and I use it, (ain't I a fool?)for you dear pupils, who wish to speak the Queen's English.
Well, maybe not but at least, if asked whether you speak English or not,
don't say: "I do not!"
The Birth of Venus is a painting by Sandro Botticelli. It depicts the goddess Venus, having emerged from the sea as a full grown woman, arriving at the sea-shore (Venus Anadyomene motif). The painting is currently in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
An astounding video uncovered from the archives today shows the BBC reporting on the collapse of WTC Building 7 over twenty minutes before it fell at 5:20pm on the afternoon of 9/11. The incredible footage shows a BBC reporter talking about the collapse of the Salomon Brothers Building while it remains standing in the live shot behind her head.
HERE IS THE END OF THE SCRIPT.
LISTEN AND READ! CAPTION 1 00:01 World trade center destroyed by hijacked planes. Pentagon hit and burning. BEGINNING OF THE BBC REPORT………………………………………………
Broadcaster: “We haven’t from the past hour so heard much from the people in Manhattan. You’re with them there. I mean what are they saying tonight about these catastrophic attack?”
Jane Stanley: “As I said, many just cannot believe this is happening. And I’ve seen big burly men and women with you know with tears in their eyes today, shaking their heads, wondering: “ What on earth is going on?” And there’s also a sense of panic on reports from the scene where people are just absolutely horrified and I’ve already seen some photographs of …that a man took down in the downtown area And it looks like the aftermath of a huge atom bomb or something just… just full of debris and like a white carpeting of snow from all the dust and rubbish that had fallen. I don’t think people can comprehend. They certainly have lost any feeling of safety. There’s still a great pride in the city. People are determined to fight back but a great sense of shock and loss. People keep looking at the sky for example where you can see the plume of smoke and say: “When that’s gone, it won’t be there anymore. Our twin towers won’t be there. Such a symbol of New York. “” CAPTION 2 6:35 Coordinated attacks in New York and Washington have caused huge loss of life.
Broadcaster: “Are they talking yet about revenge and what the government should do to counter these threats or they’re numb still?”
Jane Stanley: I think people are still numb and I don’t think people are talking about revenge in that way at all yet. I think people are still too traumatized. They, we don’t know how many people have been killed. We can’t even put a figure I think when you talk to people on, on…, CAPTION 3 6:14 The 47 storey Salomon Brothers building close to the World Trade Centre has also collapsed.
They don’t even say how many people might have been killed and injured. And I think that feeling gives you an idea of the devastation. People don’t really know what to say or what to think. I think they feel the bubble of their security being in America has definitely been popped. This city and this country will not be the same. But they don’t really know where to turn. And that’s the very sad thing. I think there’s going to be a lot of very traumatized people. That has hit very hard.
CAPTION 4 6:50 Both World Trade Centre towers have collapsed after two planes crashed into them Broadcaster: Many of us when we heard the news, perhaps on the radio earlier today were completely flabbergasted.by it and could not comprehend it.
My history colleague M. Rousseaux advised me to have a look at this video and i thought i would post it here. It is an extremely sour and ironical poem by William S. Burroughs who trashes his country and denounces many of its flaws.

A special one just for you Rea Somewhere beyond the sea Somewhere waitin' for me My lover stands on golden sand And watches the ships that go sailin'
Somewhere beyond the sea She's there watchin' for me If I could fly like birds on high Then straight to her arms I'd go sailin'
It's far beyond the star It's near beyond the moon I know beyond a doubt My heart will lead me there soon
We'll meet beyond the shore We'll kiss just as before Happy we'll be, beyond the sea And never again I'll go sailin'

Keith Olbermann, a famous U.S. journalist, news anchor and political commentator as well as a radio sportscaster is attacking George W. Bush very straightforwardly!!! You may find the video difficult to understand but I believe it's worth trying.

Oh the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are -- chaff and grain together -- certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and with the breath of kindness blow the rest away. -George Eliot (pen name of Mary Ann Evans), novelist (1819-1880)
Bird-watchers explore a forest to see which of the following six kinds of birds―grosbeak, harrier, jay, martin, shrike, wren―it contains. The findings are consistent with the following conditions:
If harriers are in the forest, then grosbeaks are not.
If jays, martins, or both are in the forest, then so are harriers.
If wrens are in the forest, then so are grosbeaks.
If jays are not in the forest, then shrikes are.
If both martins and harriers are in the forest, then which one of the following must be true?
(A) Shrikes are the only other birds in the forest.
(B) Jays are the only other birds in the forest.
(C) The forest contains neither jays nor shrikes.
(D) There are at least two other kinds of birds in the forest.
(E) There are at most two other kinds of birds in the forest.
This is an extraordinary piece of work called WITHOUT SANCTUARY.
It deals with the lynchings of black people that took place in the U.S. It is a flash movie made with pictures and postcards. The comment may not be too difficult for you to understand BUT I MUST WARN YOU: IT IS EXTREMELY VIOLENT and SHOCKING. So if you're soft-hearted, you might not want to watch it. As they say: "The film is not recommended for people of a nervous disposition." http://www.withoutsanctuary.org/index.html

Or add him on MySpace http://www.myspace.com/taylormali Slam poetry is a form of performance poetry that occurs within a competitive poetry event, called a "slam", at which poets perform their own poems (or, in rare cases, those of others) that are "judged" on a numeric scale by randomly picked members of the audience.
Taylor Mali is considered to be the most successful poetry slam strategist of all time, having led six of his seven national poetry slam teams to the finals stage and winning the championship itself a record four times before anyone had even tied him at three, Mali was one of the original poets to appear on the HBO original series "Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry." He was also the "golden-tongued, Armani clad villain" of Paul Devlin's 1997 documentary film "SlamNation," which chronicled the National Poetry Slam Championship of 1996, the year of Mali's first national team championship.

New Chess Champion Dominates in Mexico Viswanathan Anand of India is the new world champion. Anand, the world’s top-ranked player, won the World Chess Championship in Mexico City that ended yesterday. He dominated the 14-round event, winning four of them and losing none through Round 13. This is the second time Anand has been world champion. In 2000, he won the World Chess Federation’s championship, held in Tehran and New Delhi. At the time, however, there was a rival claim for the title, and Anand was not universally acknowledged as champion. This time is different. The title was unified last year, and there is only one champion. In Mexico City, Anand was in deep trouble only once, in Round 13 against Alexander Grischuk of Russia, but he squeaked through. Throughout the tournament, Anand demonstrated superior preparation and resourcefulness compared with his competitors.

What is not obvious in that video is the fact that the billboard which represents the anorexic girl is not a poster for a campaign that fights anorexia.... IT IS AN ADVERTISEMENT for a clothing brand... Nolita. What a shame!
Discovering Angel Island: The Story Behind the Poems
From 1910 to 1940, tens of thousands of immigrants entered the United States through the West Coast's Angel Island Immigration Station. Located in San Francisco's north bay, not far from Alcatraz Island, the buildings were nearly forgotten and their history practically lost, until one day Alexander Weiss, a California State Park Ranger, re-discovered them in 1970. His chance discovery began the long journey to save the Immigration Station, and ultimately, to save the stories hidden within it, and to help us remember its sad, but important role in American history.

How can my Muse want subject to invent, While thou dost breathe, that pour'st into my verse Thine own sweet argument, too excellent For every vulgar paper to rehearse? O, give thyself the thanks, if aught in me Worthy perusal stand against thy sight; For who's so dumb that cannot write to thee, When thou thyself dost give invention light? Be thou the tenth Muse, ten times more in worth Than those old nine which rhymers invocate; And he that calls on thee, let him bring forth Eternal numbers to outlive long date. If my slight Muse do please these curious days, The pain be mine, but thine shall be the praise.
"The rights we enjoy in the West today, from the basic right to vote in elections to freedom of conscience, were won in a series of hard-fought struggles over five hundred years. The triumphs and sacrifices of these hard-won victories should make us value these precious rights even more highly, especially in an age when democratic governments under pressure sometimes find it necessary to restrict rights in the name of freedom."
The Apollo 11 mission was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. It was the fifth human spaceflight of the Apollo programs, and the third human voyage to the moon. Launched on July 16, 1969, it carried Commander Neil Alden Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin Eugene 'Buzz' Aldrin, Jr. On July 20, Armstrong and Aldrin became the first humans to land on the Moon, while Collins orbited above.
The mission fulfilled President John F. Kennedy's goal of reaching the moon by the end of the 1960s. In a 1961 speech he had proposed - "I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the earth". -Wikipedia-
The radio broadcaster on this YouTube (really addictive) thinks/believes Apollo 11 did land on the moon but obviously, those who did that video don't think so nor believe it. Read their arguments!Listen to the debate. What do YOU think?

You've probably heard about the prehistorical museum that exhibits men with dinosaures. But you might not have heard of Dr Dino: excerpt from Wikipedia:
Kent Hovind, is an American evangelist and Young Earth creationist. He is most famous for creation science seminars, many of which have been taped and widely distributed. His seminars, which often make use of humor, aim to convince listeners to believe in creationism and to reject evolution. Hovind's views are criticized by the scientific community and even some fellow young earth creationist organizations like Answers In Genesis (AIG) criticize Hovind for "persistently us[ing] discredited or false arguments".
Hovind is currently serving a ten-year term in Federal Correctional Institution, Edgefield in Edgefield, South Carolina for 58 tax offenses, obstructing federal agents and related charges.
Hovind established the Creation Science Evangelism Ministry in 1989 and, before his incarceration, frequently argued for Young Earth creationism in his talks at private schools and churches, at university debates, and on radio and television broadcasts.
And here is a fun (though quite rude video)criticizing him. This video contains a spelling mistake. Will you find it and post it in the comments? I mean WHO WILL?
Warren Buffett, the third-richest man in the world, has criticised the US tax system for allowing him to pay a lower rate than his secretary and his cleaner.
Speaking at a $4,600-a-seat fundraiser in New York for Senator Hillary Clinton, Mr Buffett, who is worth an estimated $52 billion (£26 billion), said: “The 400 of us [here] pay a lower part of our income in taxes than our receptionists do, or our cleaning ladies, for that matter. If you’re in the luckiest 1 per cent of humanity, you owe it to the rest of humanity to think about the other 99 per cent.”
Mr Buffett said that he was taxed at 17.7 per cent on the $46 million he made last year, without trying to avoid paying higher taxes, while his secretary, who earned $60,000, was taxed at 30 per cent. Mr Buffett told his audience, which included John Mack, the chairman of Morgan Stanley, and Alan Patricof, the founder of the US branch of Apax Partners, that US government policy had accentuated a disparity of wealth that hurt the economy by stifling opportunity and motivation. http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/money/tax/article1996735.eceread the rest of the article by Tom Bawden from Times Onlinehere

PARTICULIEREMENT EN PENSANT AUX ELEVES DE SECONDE EN RAPPORT AVEC LE TEXTE ETUDIE: "A Breath of Fresh Air" Contrary to its title, the text deals with a stifling and deadly atmosphere. The characters are desperately but in vain trying to have a breath of fresh air. A toxic cloud is looming instead. DECEMBER 3, 1984 Shortly after midnight poison gas leaked from a factory in Bhopal, India, owned by Union Carbide Corporation. There was no warning, none of the plant's safety systems were working. In the city people were sleeping. They woke in darkness to the sound of screams with the gases burning their eyes, noses and mouths. They began retching and coughing up froth streaked with blood. Whole neighbourhoods fled in panic, some were trampled, others convulsed and fell dead. People lost control of their bowels and bladders as they ran. Within hours thousands of dead bodies lay in the streets.
